I know, but hey, the headlines write themselves...
In any event, Ole Miss storms into S. Carolina with a nationwide ranking of Number 4...
This ranking comes having only played against Memphis and Southeast Louisiana coupled with the hype of how Jevan Snead was a Heisman candidate having not even taken a snap last year due to a transfer.
Since when does hype and sports writing about hypotheticals justify a national ranking? I have never understood the way they come up with who is supposed to be number 1 prior to the season starting. Florida is ranked number 1, and you know what, THEY SHOULD BE!! They are the defending national champs and should be number one until they are beaten. However, after LSU won the national championship they were not ranked number one going into the next season?? A defending champ should always be number one until they are defeated. That's just common sense. Let them lose a game before taking away the title.
In any event, tonight's pathetic performance of athleticism by Ole Miss simply makes a mockery of the national ranking and the people that pick the Heisman hopefuls. Jevan Snead did not look like a junior quarterback much less a Heisman candidate, turning in a pathetic 7 of 21 for 107 yards!
Garcia on the other hand was 16 of 34 for 220 yards!! For a quarterback that nobody respects and was supposed to lose with HOTTY TODDY crew storming into town.
So all day I have been getting messages from my eager Hotty Toddy people who knew they were going to win. Statements of "Cock, it's what's for dinner" and "It's Time for Ole Miss to Beat Cocks"...
Really people? Did you read this before you sent it to me and really see what you said?
The reality of it is Ole Miss spent too much time dwelling on the number 4 and forgot they had to play football. You waited until the fourth quarter to start running like you had to, throwing like you needed it and gaining yards and breaking tackles.
Your arrogance that you carry around on campus and the attitude that you are better than everyone followed you to Columbia and that very same arrogance showed on the field.
Were there bad calls? Most definitely! The refs were pathetic tonite! But it happens. Everyone gets bad calls, but don't whine and get pissy... Step up and play.
Now I have spent some time in Oxford over the past two years with a project I'm working on and quite honestly, it's a beautiful town. However, when it comes to football, leave your arrogance in the mirror when you leave your room. It was very obvious that the team thought they won the game before they took the field and because others said they were great, everyone else would just accept it.
The Gamecocks were unranked and had absolutely nothing to lose. Ole miss had everything to lose and tonite you lost it.
Everyone knows I'm an LSU fan and far from a Tim Tebow fan, but everytime he takes the field he plays from whistle to whistle and is very passionate. Tebow never acts like anyone OWES them the game. He plays everyone equally tough.
Tonite Ole Miss did not do that. Next time you get a national ranking, earn it and leave the arrogance behind.
Someone needs to really explain to you all what being a champion means. What being a champion takes. And especially, how a champion acts.
South Carolina 16 - Ole Miss 10
